Introduction to a future Business Analyst

Hello everyone,

My name is Jeet Patel and I was born and raised in India and moved to United States when I was thirteen years old.  My major is Management Information System and in future I will working as a IT help support, or Business Analyst, or Business Security, etc.  It was new experience for me to move here and then my parents had start everything from scratch.  I like India it is fun especially in my village where I don't have to worry about anything and hangout with my friends.  This winter break I went to India after seven years and I had so much fun with meeting all my friends, cousins, family members, and all of the people from the villages.

This is the temple in my village.

My village is not the way it used to be where I get to see cows and they were the vahana (vehicle) of people going to the farms and other places.  Even the houses of people living in my village changed and now all of the people have new house that they reconstruct it in the same place after demolishing the old house.  It is more modernized than it used to be and everyone now has car and bike that they travel and there is no cow in the village anymore.  I still think about the days that they had cows, we get to drink pure milk.  I like Indian food especially made by my mom, there are other Indian food that you can eat in India and it taste much better than food in US.  When I was there I eat outside every day and I only eat at home three times.  There are so many foods in India and all of the states has different food which are serve in different restaurant.  Going to different restaurant and eating different kinds of food helps people understand what type of food people in other states.  One of the most delicious food you can eat is on stall they make the best food than restaurants and there are many different stall in India and they also serve different foods.

This is food stall and just like that many people get their stall
beside each other and they all have different food.

  1. Oh, thank you for these pictures, Jeet! How wonderful that you got to grow up in India and now you have a place you can always go back to, and so many good memories. Maybe you will want to do a Storybook for this class about the stories you most remember from when you were growing up there. Just reading your post made me hungry. I love Indian food, especially food from southern India. My favorite is uttapam. Oh, now I really AM getting hungry, and there is nowhere to get uttapam where I live now... but where I lived in California, I could always go to Udupi Palace, just five minutes from my house. The restaurant is still there, I am glad to say, and I went back to visit last summer. They still had all my favorites on the menu! :-)

  2. Hi Jeet!

Where in India are you from? If you are familiar with Gujarat I am about 30 minutes from Surat. This past winter was the first time I west in 3 years and I could not agree more, India is changing at an incredible pace. 7 years is a long time to not have been able to go back to India, me and my brother were getting antsy to go back and it had only been 3 years for us. There is just something relaxing about going to India, for me, my trip was like a energy shot, I was rejuvenated about school lol. My last semester was hard and I was burned out, but eating the fresh food in India is just something else. Ah the pure milk, have you ever had milk from the buffalo as soon as it was milked? That is one of the things I have to have at least once when I go. I'm an accounting major so it's exciting to find someone who is also in Price, maybe I'll see you around sometime! I can't wait to read the rest of your posts!

    1. Hi Mansi!

I am from Navsari about hours from Surat. Same I really like indian food and it is just best to eat indian food in India than in America. I was born and raised there for around 12 or 13 years and everyday I had fresh milk from buffalo and it was so much better than here. Most of my friends are different major from different college so it will exiciting to know about someone who is in price college and your work as well.

  3. Hey Jeet. Wow, I can't imagine being away from my hometown for 7 years and then coming back! I'm glad you got to see all your friends and family. I think it's important to keep in touch like that. I'm sorry that food in America doesn't live up to food in the India. I don't really like food in America; it seems like we just have a bunch of restaurants of food from other places. Have you found any restaurants here that you like?

  6. Hi Jeet! Your major sounds really cool; I wish you luck in your future! That’s great that you got to go back to India during the break to visit family. I didn’t have to travel at all during winter break because my parents always go on vacation without me. My mouth is watering from how much you talked about the food there, I hope to try it one day!

  7. Hello Jeet. It sounds like you have great plans with what to do with your degree in the future. It is really cool to see that you are from India origianally and that you were raised there until a decently old age. These stories I am sure you can remember perhaps from your childhood. I bet it was really nice to be able to travel back to your home country and visit family and friends. Seven years away is quite a long time. Anyways I hope you enjoy this class and your semester. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.

  8. Hi Jeet. It is really cool that you were born and raised (until 13) in India. Thirteen is such a good age to move like that, especially to another country. That way you are old enough to have memories and stories to share. I bet it was really cool getting to go back and see friends after seven years! You sound like you have really solid plans with your major! Great post and best of luck this semester!

  9. Hi Jeet! Your pictures and descriptions of your village look great. It's super interesting that you moved here only seven years ago, and that your village has changed that much in such a short amount of time. MIS is a great major and I hope that you are able to find a great job utilizing what you have learned. Good luck with this semester and I look forward to reading more posts from you!

  10. Hey Jeet,

That must have been a crazy adjustment to move to the US at 13. Good luck on your MIS degree! I have several friends who graduated with that degree and are doing very for themselves now. Keep it up! Also that must have been very interesting to see the change in your village after all those years. When I moved to Norman, there was a lot of development that happened in my hometown and it was weird seeing it when I went back to visit after a short time.

  11. Wow Jeet, India sounds like it would be very interesting to visit! I might have to add it to my list of places to see. I love food, but sometimes I'm intimidated to try foods from other cultures. I might pronounce the name incorrectly or eat it the wrong way. I've never had Indian food partly for this reason. Also, I am not a huge fan of milk, but I wonder if I might enjoy this fresh milk you mention. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us!

  12. Hey Jeet! After seeing your photos, I want to visit India right now! It has always been on my list of countries to visit in the future. Just a quick question, but have you read these epics before? If you have, how is it going back and reading them again? I remember growing up and reading the Odyssey. So, now when I go back, I always learn new things. I have so many friends that are also pursing a degree in MIS. I hope you are enjoying your degree path.

  13. Hey Jeet! That's wonderful that you've gotten to experience living in completely different places and learning different cultures. It's also great that you still get to return to India to visit where you cam from and that you are still connected to your past. I hope you are enjoying the course!
(P.S. You may consider adding an introduction label so that people can find your post more easily!)

  14. Jeet, that's so cool that you got to grow up in India and got to experience that and the U.S. as a teenager. It must've been so different, but a good experience to move to a different country than your home. I love Indian food too! I didn't care for it much when I was a kid, but now that I'm older, I really enjoy it! Loved getting to read this Introduction!

  15. Hello Jeet!

I love the pictures of India you shared! I hope to visit there someday along with my parent's motherland, Bangladesh, which is to the right of India. Desi food is the best food, especially when it is authentic and homemade. Good luck with your major and journey at OU. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

I also found your explanation of the differences you noticed in your village during your visit very interesting.

  20. Hello Jeet, nice to meet you. Best of luck getting your degree in management Information System, I am not sure what that is exactly. Really cool that you moved here from India. I am sure Oklahoma is very different. It must have been really weird to see your hometown change so much. Thanks for including the pictures of your hometown.

  21. Hey Jeet, it must have been hard to move to the United States at the age of thirteen but it is nice that you still get to go back and visit frequently. Hopefully your family lives in Oklahoma so you are still close to them even though you are away at college. I am jealous that you were able to eat outside all the time in Indian. If you try to eat outside in Oklahoma on certain windy days, your food usually gets blow away. It was great meeting you, good luck in your classes this semester!

  22. Hi Jeet!
What an exciting adventure it must have been to move to an entirely new country! Thirteen seems like the perfect age to move to a new place, because you're still old enough to have wonderful memories from your previous home. I hope you get to visit your village again soon and see your friends and family more frequently.

  23. Hello Jeet! I am excited to look throughout your stories and see what perspective you can bring to these stories based on your previous experience with them. My roommate from India has been a massive help in helping me understand the origins and meanings of these narrative, and I believe your reading can do the same.

  24. It is nice to meet you Jeet! It must have been crazy to go back to your old village, expect it to look the same, and then be blown away by how much things have changed there. Was there anything about the village that was the same as it was? I am looking forward to reading your perspective on these stories!

  25. Hi Jeet, it is nice to meet you! First of all, Management Information System is such a unique major because it incorporates both business and computer science, which I think is very neat. I am glad you got to visit India during the Winter Break, it sounded like a nice and relaxing vacation. Was there anything you liked in the modern reconstruction of your city in India? I agree with what you said about food and its ability to connect different people together. Food has a special way to bond people together! Well, I hope you enjoy the remaining of the semester, Jeet!
